10 Reasons You Need To Start Watching Impact Again

6. Commentary Has Improved

Impact’s commentary team is still not great. Let's just get that out of the way. But with the addition of Don Callis to the booth, things are certainly looking up.

For those who didn't suffer through it, Josh Mathews and Jeremy Borash created the worst commentary team seen on a national stage in...possibly ever. Jeff Jarrett didn’t learn anything from the Michael Cole debacle in WWE, in that a lead announcer playing a heel and arguing all night with his co-worker is exhausting and irritating to listen through. Because of this, Borash and Mathews often ignored matches entirely and instead took constant, embarrassing digs at each other. No wrestlers got over because of their banter. It’s likely the duo's annoyingness caused many fans to give up on the product for good.

Even when the two stopped bickering, Borash sounded like he’d rather be anywhere else than in the Impact Zone. Perhaps he was daydreaming of landing a sweet gig in WWE. Right now, the team appears to be composed of Callis and...unfortunately, Josh Mathews. While Josh is still his mediocre (at best) self, Callis adds a much-needed dose of credibility and entertaining inside analysis. Hearing him at Redemption was a breath of fresh air. All was briefly right in the wrestling world.

Hopefully Callis stays on full-time in the role. While Sonjay Dutt was an improvement over a disinterested Borash, the NJPW announcing pro has the credibility with hardcore wrestling fans to possibly earn the promotion another chance.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
