10 Recent Tag Team Splits That Ruined Each Member’s Career

7. Blake & Murphy

Dethroning The Lucha Dragons ahead of Sin Cara and Kalisto's main roster promotion in 2015, Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy were convincingly cast as plucky underdogs made good after years looking at the Full Sail lights.

Upon conclusively defeating the Mexican duo in rematches, Blake and Murphy lost their first names and babyface personas to shift them towards one of the brand's hottest acts. Their eventual victory over Enzo and Cass served an additional purpose beyond solidifying them as the show's top unit - Alexa Bliss turned heel and joined up with them as a leveller for Carmella, immediately bringing added credibility with her.

It was that credibility she took with her after abandoning the pair shortly before her main roster promotion. Suddenly high on Alexa more than the Champions, the creative team seemed to lose interest in their recent pet project overnight. After losing the titles at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn to The Vaudevillains, the 'Dubstep Cowboys' never even looked in the chase to retain from the new crop of dynamic doubles acts, and were systematically jobbed out in tag and singles matches until their underemphasised split in mid-2016.

A punchline to the bitter end, their blowoff match never even occurred. Set to take place as a TV main event, both destroyed by Samoa Joe before they could fight one another as 'The Samoan Submission Machine' ran roughshod on the roster in order to claim back his NXT title.
