10 Recent Times WWE Hit The Upgrade Button

9. Santos Escobar

El Hijo del Fantasma Santos Escobar
WWE

King Cuerno was awesome on Lucha Underground for approx five years, but WWE's El Hijo del Fantasma was more generic luchador than flashy new Rey Mysterio. Though inoffensive as a high-flying babyface, Fantasma was just sorta'...there. WWE fans have witnessed too many of these masked clones over the years.

There wasn't room for another one.

That's why, when Fantasma ditched the mask, showed off his handsome looks and repackaged himself as Santos Escobar, yours truly pee'd a little. OK, too much info there, but the elation was real. It's obvious that Escobar has all the talent in the world, and he'll get to show much more personality without the hood.

His revamp feels like a massive upgrade overall. Now, instead of playing the high-fiving lucha king with the rent-a-wrestler masks, Santos can wear snappy suits, build his legacy as NXT Cruiserweight Champ and maybe earn his way to bigger things.
