10 Recent Wrestling Gimmicks That Already Look Done For
9. Luchasaurus
This one is a victim of poor timing.
There was always a going to be a ceiling for a wrestler like Luchasaurus. In-ring, he is an explosive big man, and was beloved as the menacing dinosaur pal of rising star Jungle Boy. As Jurassic Express, the duo were a lovable act and even reigned as the AEW Tag Team Champions.
But Jungle Boy was always the focus of the duo. Positioned as one of the 'pillars' since day one, the entire act was to help build Jack Perry as a future star, which was also the reason the pair's alliance with Christian Cage. The wily Canadian veteran provided great guidance, and we all knew Christian's turn would eventually happen.
When it did, it was white hot, and Cage drew the masked luchador into the middle of it. The heel turn hasn't been that effective, with Luchasaurus now donning a black mask but, without a true character, it's hard to get behind.
Unfortunately, Christian Cage came down with a serious injury right at the peak of the feud, meaning the pay-off of the Instant Classic vs. Jungle Jack is a long way off and will have significantly cooled by the time it eventually happens. Considering the entire split has been focused on Cage vs. Jungle Boy, the proposed JB vs. Luchasaurus rivalry has little heat to it, and when Jungle Boy inevitably goes over in that feud, what next for the big man?
A heel Luchasaurus already feels lost.
