With the emergence of female WWE superstars like Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Bayley, it may be difficult to remember that it wasn't that long ago Brie Bella was headlining the women's division, taking on Stephanie McMahon at SummerSlam 2014.

This match was supposed to be the culmination of the Brie/Stephanie storyline that saw Brie gain her revenge for The Authority's treatment of her family during the previous year. Instead, Nikki Bella turned on her sister, costing her the match and fans were expecting to find out who the superior Bella Twin was.

Only that payoff never came.

Sure, we got the infamous "died in the womb" promo from Nikki and a Jerry Springer segment, but this whole angle was dropped without any explanation after the 2014 Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View. Inexplicably, Brie was willingly back at her sister's side after being physically and verbally abused since SummerSlam.

Clearly, WWE did not like the angle they had created and did their best vanishing act to try and make the fans forget. After a massive betrayal at the second biggest show of the year, Nikki and Brie were right back to where they were before SummerSlam.
