10 Recent WWE Character Turns That Didn't Make Sense

3. AJ Styles

Almost every single thing about the AJ Styles character screams "babyface".

The moves, the backstory, the workrate, the colours, the gloves; this guy is the prototypical good guy, yet after only 4 short months with WWE, he was turned heel. This is to say nothing about the boost in merchandise sales that Styles supposedly experienced in his first quarter with WWE, but that's a whole other issue.

To be fair, WWE is in somewhat of a crisis right now in terms of the heel:face ratio on the main roster and they could certainly do with some credible villains. But WWE had numerous talents to choose from to flip (e.g. Ambrose, Ziggler, Crews, etc.). Why those chose their best worker that was being heavily cheered by the majority of audiences and selling more merch than 80% of the roster after merely 17 weeks working for WWE does not make any sense.

Too many athletes with breakout babyface potential have had their legs cut out from under them because of a bad WWE decision. Time will tell if this turn will negatively affect AJ the way it has so many others, but WWE's track record says it absolutely will.
