7. Never Winning Back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
From 2011 to 2013, all CM Punk knew was the WWE Championship. He captured his second WWE title at 2011's Survivor Series event and went on to reign as champion for the next 434 days. He became the first individual in 25 years to hold the gold for a full calendar year and defended against Superstars such as Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, John Cena and others. It almost seemed as if Punk was naked when he eventually dropped the strap to The Rock at the Royal Rumble 2013 pay-per-view. He attempted to win it back at Elimination Chamber the following month, but was unsuccessful. For the next year, Punk was completely left out of the title picture up until his abrupt departure from the company. He was too occupied with The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania, being betrayed by Paul Heyman, and taking out The Wyatt Family and The Shield. Once it became obvious that Punk wasn't going to be contending for the title at WrestleMania 30, he split. What's ironic, however, is that had he not left, he more than likely would have won back the belt before long. Daniel Bryan, the man who replaced him in his match with Triple H at 'Mania, was forced to vacate the title after being sidelined with a serious neck injury. John Cena won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank because no one else made sense. Who knows? Had Punk not left as soon as he did, he could have very well faced Brock Lesnar in a rematch from last year's SummerSlam instead of Cena, this time for the title.
