10 Regrettable Wrestling Revamps
5. Owen Hart - The Blue Blazer
Perhaps the most regrettable revamp in the history of wrestling, the WWF’s decision to repackage Owen Hart as the Blue Blazer was both questionable and tragic.
Despite earning a stellar reputation for himself over the course of the '90s, Owen was told to revert back to his Blue Blazer character in late 1998. Having worn the mask during his initial run in WWF a decade earlier - including an appearance at WrestleMania V - it was an odd move to have such a popular performer revisit a gimmick prior to his success.
Nevertheless, ever the company man, Owen agreed and made his return to WWF TV as the Blue Blazer in November. Encouraging fans to “say their prayers, take their vitamins, and drink their milk”, Owen got the Blazer over as a dorky heel with his clean cut antics.
Sadly, the gimmick would ultimately prove fatal. In an attempt to parody the superhero-like entrance of WCW’s Sting, Owen fell to his death at Over the Edge in May 1999.
The Blazer gimmick was often rumoured to be punishment for Owen turning down an on-screen love triangle angle between himself, Jeff Jarrett, and Debra. While this rumour has never truly been confirmed, the heartbreaking results remain making this revamp truly regrettable.
