10 Ric Flair Stories So Crazy That They Must Be True

4. No-Selling A Plane Crash

In 1975, Ric Flair was still making a name for himself in the world of pro wrestling, but would prove his toughness to everybody by coming back from a broken neck, suffered due to a plane crash, in a little over three months. After being told by doctors that he should stop wrestling, Flair surprised everyone by coming back in such a short space of time.

According to Mike Mooneyham, a then-journalist, he talked to Johnny Valentine about the incident, who told him that Flair and he had swapped seats next the pilot, because the latter wasn't comfortable about sitting up front in the plane. Of course, who knows what may have happened had Flair been sitting in his original seat, the future of pro wrestling may have been a lot different.

In total, four wrestlers - Ric Flair, Johnny Valentine, Tim Woods and Bobby Bruggers - and promoter David Crockett were involved in the crash. Notably, from a wrestling perspective, Valentine ended up paralysed by the accident, and would never wrestle again.

It's absolutely incredible to think that Flair was back within the short span of only a few months, which shows the resilience of the man, but it's undoubtedly one occasion where the guy realised just how mortal he was. Ric Flair lives as though he's untouchable, and enjoys life to the fullest, but his own existence was nearly cut short at only 26 years of age.
