2. Cody Rhodes

It’s the obvious answer, but just over a year after he asked for his release from WWE it has become clear that Vince and co made a mistake with Mr. Rhodes. In that year he has established himself as the biggest star on the independents and while he might not be the best in-ring worker going around, there’s no denying that he knows how to sell himself.

Which isn’t to say that Rhodes can’t go: he can, and he’s had memorable matches with current NXT champ Drew Galloway, Kazuchika Okada, and Christopher Daniels during his time on the indies. However, Cody’s real asset is his star power. The second he steps foot in a ring it feels like the main event has arrived, even if he is working second or third from the top.

With Rhodes’s history in WWE, you can forgive him for wanting to spend a bit of time away. However, there’s always been the feeling that this was a short-term thing rather than the long-term goal. The Rhodes name still has a lot of value and when he and WWE decide it’s time, you can’t help but imagine he’ll step straight into the company and into a much higher spot than the one he occupied before.
