10 Rumoured Wrestling Gimmicks That Thankfully Never Happened

2. Batista The Rape Child

As far as distasteful ideas go, this one comes pretty close to taking the biscuit. When Batista started out in WWE, his gimmick was going to be a man who was unbelievably angry and hateful, someone with nothing but vitriol for the world he inhabits. The reason for this hate was going to be that Batista was conceived through rape, and the hate stemmed from his father.

Well, where to start? It is utterly ludicrous that such an idea could be floated around. There aren't many more serious and sensitive subjects than the crime of rape, and professional wrestling simply isn't the world in which such things should be discussed. When you add to this the WWE's track record of dealing with serious subjects, one dreads to think where this could have gone.

The idea was dropped, and Batista eventually arrived on the main roster as Deacon Batista. Thank the Lord.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
