10 Saddest Times Wrestlers Couldn't Finish The Story

3. Wade Barrett

Back in 2010, WWE was on fire with this wild storyline involving Wade Barrett and his Nexus crew going up against the face of the company, John Cena. The Nexus stormed onto the scene, destroyed the ring and everybody around it, then set their sights on Cena. Big mistake boys.

It looked for all the world like Barrett was the next big thing. He won the old gameshow version of NXT, then got the other rookies (they actually called Daniel Bryan a rookie!) to do his bidding on the main roster. Things went wrong as soon as Cena was thrown into the story. First, the Nexus lost to Team WWE in their first big match together at SummerSlam 2010. Then Cena was forced to join the yellow N to help Wade become WWE Champion.

Here's where the story comes to an end. Barrett was the biggest heel on Raw so surely he was about to become the first ever WWE Champion from these great islands we call Britain. It's still painful to say it but the whole story fell flat. Cena stopped him winning the belt, then got fired, but still returned to squash the entire faction. He literally buried the future Bad News Barrett under a pile of chairs and that was it.

Chris Jericho and Edge have both said that Cena pushed for Team WWE to win and wreck this story backstage; if that's true then it's a top level "That doesn't work for me, brother."
