10 Saddest TNA Departures
9. Alex Shelley
Before the past year or so, WWEs tag division was terrible for over a decade. One of the things that TNA could boast to being superior to their competition was their tag division. Triple X, Beer Money, Team 3D, L.A.X. and A.J. Styles and Christopher Daniels were putting on a ton of great matches in exciting programs.
It was The Motorcity Machine Guns, though, that were perhaps the easiest to root for. We followed the duo from their journey as virtual jobbers of the division to becoming the top team. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin clicked well as a duo. They were young, cool, and funny. Not wrestling Hornswoggle/Great Khali type funny, but actual funny.
Before they joined forces, Shelley and Kevin Nash, of all people, made an amazing duo. It was an example of a long-time veteran trying his best to get a younger guy over. They had great chemistry, and put on some of the funniest segments the company ever had, so naturally TNA dropped it without any explanation.
After Hogan and The Bischoff came in (noticing a theme already?) The Guns feuded with The Young Bucks (sadly re-named Generation Me), in a feud that sounded amazing on paper, but was never promoted as a big deal. Injuries to Shelley, then later Sabin, kept the two apart for some time. When they did return, they came up short in a feud for the gold, then were left off of TV. Shelley was frustrated and decided to not re-sign with the company. With the right push they could have had a Chris Jericho type star, but they never gave him the chance.
