Excluding a few one-off appearances, Gangrel's run in the WWE lasted only three years. He formed a short-lived stable with Edge and Christian, and went on to be comfortably the least successful of the three - he never enjoyed a single title reign in the company. Yet he is often remembered as one of the Attitude Era's most beloved midcarders, fondly looked back on for his vampire gimmick. Some scary gimmicks are over-the-top by their very nature. Sometimes, as Gangrel demonstrated, it is best to embrace this cheesiness and use it to its full potential. So many elements of his character combined to make him a classic scary villain, one unlikely to be forgotten despite his fairly lacklustre run in the company. His entrance was one of the best ever. Gangrel would rise slowly from a ring of fire on the stage, chuckling sinisterly and bathed in red light. He'd then walk down to ringside, drink deeply from a goblet, and spit blood high into the air (a lot of it trickling down onto his face and shirt). It was a great example of a wrestler fully engaging with his character. Gangrel was never regarded quite as terrifying as he should have been, his weak booking probably a major factor in this regard. He still makes sporadic appearances with independent promotions, and even briefly branched out as a porn director. He will surely be invited to a gimmick battle royal sometime in the future.
