Watching arguably the two biggest stars of their generations not only throw down at two WrestleManias, but produce a ton of other instantly iconic moments on the mic during their historic rivalry was often a pretty surreal experience.

But do you know what would have made that massive The Rock vs. John Cena rivalry that little bit spicier? If WWE had actually finally committed to turning Super Cena heel at some point in the heated program.

This was something that Vince McMahon was apparently "toying with" heading into that first clash between the two at WrestleMania 28. Cena was fully ready to dive into this darker role, too (via The Pat McAfee Show at 40:00 in the video below).

After 'The Face that Runs the Place' also explained how they couldn't just "jump back because we'll be sunk at both ends," Vince eventually scrapped the fascinating idea of evil Cena, and the company just went ahead with an all babyface blockbuster main event instead.

The end results were still about as electric as you'd expect whenever the two shared a ring together - even if the matches weren't technical classics - but having Cena properly lean into the hate here would have almost certainly taken this rivalry to a whole new level.
