10 Secrets To Enjoying WWE In 2019 (Despite Its Flaws)

1. Stop Comparing It To Past Eras

Wrestling fans will always compare the modern product to the one they grow up with. This is natural. There's nothing wrong with viewing your fandom's formative era through rose-tinted glasses, whether it be Attitude or Ruthless Aggression, New Generation or Golden, but letting it taint your enjoyment of the modern product is problematic.

Comparing the PG era to Attitude is as pointless as it is destructive, because the latter can never return. It was lightning in a bottle: the perfect creative period for that specific point in time, with its harder, edgier product capturing the zeitgeist. PG/Network/Reality seems tame by comparison, but Attitude isn't the answer. The world has moved on. Attempting to recreate their late-'90s magic would see WWE turn countless investors, advertisers, and families with young children away. It would alienate more fans than it would create or bring back. The same goes for almost any other period from WWE history.

Comparing eras blinds fans to the modern product's merits, of which there are many. Does that mean that WWE is as exciting in 2019 was it was in 1998? Of course not, but it's always going to seem lame if you're drawing lines between it and the wrestling you grew up on.
