10 Seriously Overlooked WWE Heels

8. 'The Model' Rick Martel

In late-1989, former mid card tag-team wrestler Rick Martel was transformed into one of the hottest heel gimmicks in the WWF. Splitting from the Strike Force duo he had worked alongside Tito Santana, Martel morphed into 'The Model'. The stereotypically arrogant guise was perfect for the chiselled Canadian performer.

Introducing his own fragrance, fittingly named 'Arrogance', Rick was the kind of heel that worked wonders in the early-1990's. He lacked the size perhaps necessary to challenge for the WWF Heavyweight Title, however Martel would have been perfect foil for someone like The Ultimate Warrior had things turned out that way.

As it was, The Model didn't reach the upper echelons in the promotion. A dependable hand between the ropes, Martel was the kind of guy management could rely on to always entertain.

Looking back to his stint with the gimmick between 1989-1995, it's hard to shake the feeling that the WWF could have done much more with the guy. In the same mould as Mr. Perfect, Martel deserved those main event paydays.

Sadly, they were never to come.
