Nowadays, Matt Hardy is earning rave reviews for his 'Broken' character over on TNA programming. This isn't the first time that the elder Hardy Boy has reinvented himself, although it must be considered the most striking. Back during his WWE tenure, Matt turned himself into a viable heel in 2002/2003 and began referring to himself as 'Version 1'.

Complete with his own hand gesture, Hardy rapidly became one of the most entertaining faces on the SmackDown roster. Despite being placed in the lower-card Cruiserweight division, he showed some serious charisma that had been lacking throughout his time as a tag wrestler with brother Jeff.

Extolling the virtues of 'Mattitude', Hardy even had his own 'Matt Facts' that showed during his entrance. To give a modern comparison, they were virtually identical to the kind of thing Curt Hawkins is using now.

The heel run didn't last too long for Matt, he soon made the jump to Raw and returned to playing a more identifiable character in-keeping with the rest of his WWE career. His 'Version 1' guise was another that had more potential.
