Coming over from WCW once a slew of talent contracts were gobbled up by the WWF, Lance Storm was a great addition to the roster. By SummerSlam, the whole 'Invasion' idea had already flagged, but the company decided to keep things ticking along into Survivor Series. Somewhere along the line, Storm won the WWF Intercontinental Title and was put against Edge on the August pay-per-view for the belt.

Chosen as the opener for SummerSlam, Lance Storm vs. Edge was one heck of a tidy little match. Gelling extremely well from the off, the Canadians started the show in fine fettle. The heel work of Storm really made it easy for fans in attendance to rally behind Edge for the title win.

At just over eleven minutes in length, the bout was given some time to breathe in the opening slot. Neither man rushed, something key in making the match work. This Intercontinental Title win was a huge moment in the career of Edge, and deserves way more praise than it ever gets.

In terms of Storm's WWF/WWE career, this was one of his best matches.
