10 Seriously Underrated WWE World Title Matches
9. Chris Benoit Vs. Kane - Bad Blood 2004
Chris Benoit's World Heavyweight Title run of Spring/Summer 2004 is often regarded as a disappointment, if not an outright failure. It started off so well, with a well-received win in a thrilling triple threat match opposite Shawn Michaels and Triple H at WrestleMania XX in Madison Square Garden, but Benoit was never treated as the top guy.
Oh, he was World Heavyweight Champion alright, but the focus was usually on Evolution, Shawn Michaels or, erm ,Eugene. Still, Benoit managed to have plenty of typically great matches during his run, including an underrated match with Kane at 2004's Bad Blood pay-per-view.
A self-indulgent Hell in a Cell match between The Game and The Heartbreak Kid may have headlined, but the Rabid Wolverine and the Big Red Machine had the best match of the night. They told a simple David versus Goliath story, with Benoit constantly working over his bigger foe only to get swatted back down.
The Crippler, not one to give up, just kept coming back time and time again and would not quit. Kane used his power game, while Benoit kept going for the Crippler Crossface to no avail. Eventually, when he realised the crossface wouldn't work on a man of Kane's size and strength, he transitioned into a tidy rollup for the win.
Benoit might have been cut off at the knees as World Heavyweight Champion, but he produced when it counted and his work spoke for itself.
