Longtime fans, by and large, do not have happy memories of the ECWCW invasion of the WWF. To most, it was a gigantic flop, a foolproof, money-making angle squandered by bad booking and the absence of top stars. Those accusations are fair, but it also leaves out the fact that there were some really good PPVs and matches from that period, too.

One such show was SummerSlam 2001, mostly remembered for the classic Kurt Angle versus Steve Austin WWE Title clash. That was unquestionably the best match on the card, but it didn't close out the 'biggest party of the summer'. No, that honour went to Booker T and The Rock, who locked up with the (WCW) World Heavyweight Title on the line.

The Great One and the 5-Time WCW Champion started off at a frantic pace, with Rocky bumping Booker all over the ring before the two decided to brawl around ringside and into the crowd, where Book took the advantage. Rock tried to come back with a Sharpshooter, but Booker's manager and kayfabe WCW owner Shane McMahon thwarted him.

He did eventually rally and land some offense, whipping the crowd into a frenzy with his clotheslines, right hands and spinebuster. The People's Elbow, but Shane stopped the count and ate a Rock Bottom on the floor for his troubles. The match was building nicely and Booker could have won it but his tendency to showboat cost him.

After nailing an axe kick, he stopped to perform a Spinaroonie, giving Rock enough time to kip up and blast him with a Rock Bottom for the very well-received victory. This match showed that The Rock was back and he was on great form and that Booker T was a star-in-the-making, showing he could hang with one of WWE's best in a pay-per-view main event.
