On paper, the writers probably thought they were using one of 1999's hottest stories to create a new WWF headliner. Though it didn't pan out well in the long run, that must be why Rikishi was revealed as the man who ran over Steve Austin at Survivor Series '99.

Like wrestling's own Sherlock Holmes, it was Commissioner Mick Foley who found Rikishi out and forced him to admit his treachery to the world. Things became convoluted when Rikishi claimed he "did it for The Rock" (including others in the story was unnecessary), and even more so when it was revealed that Triple H had been the real mastermind behind this attempted murder.

Finding out who had mowed down Austin was a big part of Stone Cold's comeback in late-2000. Learning that it was Rikishi under orders from Triple H was a let down, but at the time it seemed like the Too Cool member might join the headline crew and feud extensively with Austin.
