Remember that earlier whinge about insider jabs and that sort of thing? Well, it became a major problem during Heatwave 1999, but nobody blinked at the time. That in itself is an issue; hardly any of the ECW marks in attendance gave a sh*t about the "controversial" language Tommy Dreamer and Steve Corino were using.

The whole exercise fell flat then.

Dreamer cut an impassioned promo about making ECW the top wrestling company in the world. Then, Corino told him to shut it and said his time was over due to injuries. Then, in a stupid moment, everyone paused the storytelling to go full-on backstage by using phrases like "do the job", "lay down" and "put over".

It was cutting edge at the time, because the WWF and WCW hadn't done a ton of this stuff, but it's fairly cringeworthy to look back on now and defo sucks viewers out of the moment. "Put over" and "do the job" weren't mentioned elsewhere on the card, so there was an immediate disconnect between this promo and everything else.
