10 Most Shocking WWE Releases This Decade

9. Matt Hardy - Released On October 15, 2010

WWE.comWWE.comFor those who were reading up on Matt Hardy behind the scenes in 2010, his departure from the company probably wasn€™t that much of a surprise. But for those who had been following Matt for years on TV, his release was definitely shocking. After all, he had been let go in 2005, but due to rabid fan reaction, he was brought back into the fold to feud with Edge. It felt like he was going to be a lifer in the company, as long as he didn€™t screw up badly. Matt then proceeded to screw up quite badly. Ever since Matt€™s big push failed, he was stuck in the mid-card while he watched his brother Jeff was shot near the top of the company. Matt was also starting to gain weight and slow down in the ring. He was clearly unhappy with the company, and to top it all off, he was battling a serious drug addiction. Through a series of rambling online videos, he attacked wrestling news websites as well as the WWE product. Every day his behavior seemed to become more erratic and unpredictable. It was only a matter of time before he was let go. Matt got his wish, as WWE released in him 2010. A short, troubled run in TNA soon followed, and Matt has yet to appear in one of the big two promotions since.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
