10 Most Shocking WWE Releases This Decade

7. Chris Masters - Released On August 5, 2011

Chris MastersWWE.comChris Masters appeared to have the exact physique that Vince McMahon looks for in a superstar. Because of his body, he was given a big push right out of the gate (it sure wasn€™t because of his promo ability!). When he arrived on Raw, he laid out the Masterlock challenge, where people from the crowd, and eventually wrestlers, tried to get out of his devastating full-nelson. Within a year of his debut, he defeated Ric Flair, was feuding with Shawn Michaels and received a couple of title shots. Everything was going great for him until he violated the wellness policy twice and was released. However, it wasn€™t his first departure from the company that was shocking, it was his second one. About a year and a half after being let go, he returned to WWE. He was noticably smaller (and HHH couldn€™t help but mock that fact on air), but he had improved as a wrestler. To prove that his push the first time around was all about his body, Masters was reduced to comic foil. Instead of making people tap out, he made his pec muscles dance. During this time, though, he was turning into a pretty good worker. With so much experience, and increased in-ring skills, it seemed that it would only be a matter of time before WWE gave him another shot. Instead, they let him go again at the age of 28.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
