10 Most Shocking WWE Releases This Decade

5. Mickie James - Released On April 22, 2010

WWE.comWWE.comIn 2009, Mickie James was the WWE Divas Champion. In 2010, she was released from her contract. It was a quick and brutal fall for one of the most popular women the company has ever since. After all, other incredibly popular women like Trish Stratus got to go out on her own terms. Chyna left the company due to personal issues with Hunter and Steph. Sable left the world of wrestling and tried to sue her former employers, but Mickie was simply let go. So what exactly happened? According to her ex-fiance Ken Doane (Kenny from The Spirit Squad), John Cena was having an affair with Mickie behind the scenes. When John wanted to end it, and get married to his high-school sweetheart, Mickie took the news badly and was shipped off to SmackDown. Once there, she was jobbed out and was made fun of for her weight (even though she was in incredible shape) in the infamous Piggie James storyline. Then she was relegated to random tag matches without any character support from creative. It just didn't make any sense. While in WWE, Mickie held the Women€™s title five times (only Trish held it more), but was unceremoniously dropped as if she was any regular mid-carder. We may never know exactly what happened with Mickie, but her departure was shocking and left a big hole in the Divas division for the next few years.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
