9. Magnum T.A. Tries To Remove Tully Blanchard's Eye
NWA greats Tully Blanchard and Magnum T.A. didn't need much of a 'storyline' going into their U.S. Title I Quit Cage Match at Starrcade '85. They just hated each other, pure and simple and Magnum wanted his championship back. Ah, the days before convoluted overbooking... The match was a classic, although certainly not in the catch-as-catch-can sense. No, Tully and Magnum just beat the hell out of each other for twelve of the most realistic minutes of professional wrestling you are ever likely to see in your life. The two punch, kicked, clawed and rammed each other into the steel mesh with rarely-seen vigour. The finish to the match was one of the most brutal and realistic in wrestling history. Blanchard's valet Baby Doll tossed a balsa wood chair into the ring, which shattered on impact. Tully then grabbed a piece of the wood and tried to stab Magnum with it, only for 'America's Heart Throb' to counter it and jam it into Blanchard's eye for the submission victory.
