Admittedly, the name World Championship Wrestling was a stuttering one in July, 2001. Nonetheless, the WWF wanted to reinvigorate the ailing brand, and turn it into a money maker for their own benefit. That was one plan, but the promotion did nothing to really make things work out. There was evidence of this on one episode of Smackdown that month. During the show, Kurt Angle beat Booker T to win the WCW World Title. The announcers tried to play up the triumph as monumental, but it was really a low point in the entire WCW 'Invasion' angle. It's common knowledge that the story was badly handled by the McMahon family, and this title win stands as just another example as to why. Kurt Angle should not have beaten Booker T. This was a chance for the WWF to establish Booker as a champion to beat, not one that would roll over the first time he faced a top headliner. Angle's run with the belt lasted less than a week in real time. The show was taped on July 24, and aired on July 26. That means that in TV land, Kurt only held the title for 4 days before dropping it back to Booker on Raw.
