10 Shockingly Short World Title Reigns That Damaged WCW

8. Sting (2 Hours Approx - April, 1999)

In the space of just a few hours on WCW Monday Nitro, the World Title changed hands twice on the one program. Early in the broadcast, Sting defeated Diamond Dallas Page (who himself had only held the belt for 15 days at this point) to bag the gold. DDP had overcome Sting, Ric Flair and Hollywood Hogan at the 1998 version of Spring Stampede to win the title for the first time. His first run with the belt really should have been longer, but WCW was already turning into a mess by the Spring of 1999. Long term planning wasn't on the agenda, which is why DDP's reign was cut short. The main thinking behind this move was that he'd look even better by regaining the title quickly after losing it. Sadly, that wasn't really the case. In the main event of the same Nitro, DDP won the WCW World Title for a second time. Just like Spring Stampede, he did so by winning a 4-way match, this time against Sting, Kevin Nash and Goldberg. All-in-all, Sting's tenure as champ lasted around 2 hours. Passing the World Title around in this fashion did nothing but hurt the mystique of the championship.
