10 Shocks WWE Could Pull At Royal Rumble 2018
5. Pete Dunne Makes An Impact
Over recent years, the Royal Rumble has been a great place for WWE to introduce NXT rookies to the main roster, giving them the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the industry's biggest names on night one.
Normally, it's someone who has already reached the top of the developmental ranks - which perhaps can't really be said of Pete Dunne. He's yet to challenge for the NXT Championship, spending most of his time in the self-contained UK Title division.
But, then again, he also doesn't really have a natural place down in Orlando. He's still carrying the British belt, for one thing, and storylines in NXT move at a slower pace than the rest of the roster, making it unlikely that he will break into the title picture by the next TakeOver event.
He could be a good candidate for an immediate jump up to the main roster instead; this would breathe new life into the mid-card division on Raw or SmackDown, and ensure that all of that momentum he generated a year ago doesn't fizzle out before he's had a chance in the big time.
