10 Shortest WWE Championship Reigns
6. Rey Mysterio: 1 Hour
Poor Rey Mysterio. For a brief hour it looked like he would be a big beneficiary of the 'Summer of Punk' storyline in 2011. Then along came John Cena...
Famously, at Money in the Bank 2011, CM Punk won the WWE championship from John Cena and then legged it out of the building with the belt, ostensibly leaving the company. As a response, Mr McMahon set up a tournament the next night on Raw to crown a new champion.
The following week, in the tournament final, Rey Mysterio defeated The Miz to win his first and only WWE championship. For some reason, John Cena proceeded to ask for a shot at the title in the same night and Mysterio, bizarrely, granted him one. Cena capitalised to win back the WWE title, eight days after he'd lost it to Punk.
CM Punk then returned at the end of the show with his original title in tact. He and Cena would square off at Summerslam to declare the true, undisputed WWE champion, while Mysterio was left out in the cold with nothing. Cheers John.
