10 Shortest WWE Intercontinental Title Reigns Of All Time
1. Chris Jericho - 8 Minutes
Chris Jericho nine reigns as Intercontinental Champion make for a record, and announcers are sure to mention that just about any time Y2J is on screen. Upon closer inspection, though, things get less impressive. In nine runs, he only racked up 318 days as champion - in other words, the average length per reign was only five weeks.
With a title reign like the one that happened on October 27, 2003, it's little surprise the average is so low. On that episode of Raw, Rob Van Dam was forced to defend the Intercontinental Title against Chris Jericho, and a distraction from Eric Bischoff was the difference-maker. RVD reached the ropes while in the Walls of Jericho, but the referee was still distracted by Bischoff. Jericho pulled RVD back into the center of the ring, where he tapped out.
Jericho wouldn't get to enjoy his reign, though - co-GM Steve Austin announced that a rematch would take place immediately, in a steel cage. The cage lowered, and the bout began - and though Jericho tried to escape, RVD climbed out about six minutes into the match, recapturing the IC title he had just lost. Jericho's reign was over almost before it began.
