10 Shortest WWE Intercontinental Title Reigns Of All Time
2. Dean Douglas - 11 Minutes
At In Your House 4, three-time Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels was supposed to defend his title against Dean Douglas. Prior to the bout, though, Michaels was the victim of an assault in Syracuse, New York. Though there was controversy as to exactly what happened (Michaels allegedly hit on the girlfriend or wife of a marine, leading to him getting beaten by a group of them), the Intercontinental Champion was legitimately injured.
At the show, Michaels couldn't compete. Instead, he came to the ring sullenly and was forced to vacate the championship, handing it over to Douglas. A new Intercontinental Champion had been crowned, despite the fact that no match occurred.
Things wouldn't be that easy for Douglas, though. He was forced to defend the belt in an impromptu match, and his opponent would be three-time Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon. Ramon quickly overcame the stunned Douglas, pinning him to win the belt for a fourth time.
For many years, Douglas's reign stood as the shortest ever - and perhaps the shortest imaginable - but it, too, was "bested."
