At Fully Loaded 1999, Jeff Jarrett ended Edge's first reign as Intercontinental Champion, beating him in a hot PPV opener. Though fans were upset to see Jarrett put an end to the upstart's surprising title run, they had also witnessed history - Jarrett's win marked his fifth reign with the belt, breaking the previous record of four that had been set by Razor Ramon four years earlier.

Two days later on Raw (a show that was taped on July 27, 1999, but wouldn't air until August 2), Jarrett was given the opportunity to win another championship - he was booked in a title versus title match with European Champion D'Lo Brown. In typical Attitude Era fashion, there was only one show of buildup and it revolved around an attempted attack on Ben Stiller, but there you go.

Jarrett put up a fight to try and capture double gold, but an attempt at a distraction by Debra failed, allowing D'Lo to hit Jarrett with the IC title. That let D'Lo get the pin, and Jarrett's record-breaking title reign became his shortest.
