10 Sickening In-Ring Injuries You Won't Believe Stars Wrestled Through

6. John Cena Tears His Pectoral Muscle

John Cena is often pushed as WWE's version of Superman. Perhaps that comparison isn't far off. His body has taken a ton of punishment over the years with an injury to his hip flexor, multiple elbow surgeries, a herniated disk in his neck, and perhaps the most gruesome: tearing his pectoral muscle right off the bone.

During an episode of Raw in 2007, Cena was six days away from a title defense against Randy Orton. But first, he had to get through Mr. Kennedy. It should have been your safe, typical Cena match. But something didn't go quite right. Perhaps it was Jim Ross who inadvertently jinxed the face of the WWE. About a minute into the match he announced to the audience "Cena can't afford to be injured." As fate would have it, about 30 seconds later, Cena threw an arm drag that he'll never forget.

Though you see an arm drag or two in nearly every wrestling match without a hitch, this one caused Cena to tear his pectoral muscle. The injury was so bad that he had to surrender the WWE Championship. It was the longest WWE title reign in nearly two decades. Who knows how long it would have gone on for? It kept him out of action for months until he made a surprise return at the Royal Rumble - a lot sooner than anyone had thought possible. Oh, and just like the Super Cena moniker, he was even able to win the Kennedy match despite only being able to use one arm.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
