10 Signs That Point To WWE WrestleMania 34 Being AWESOME
3. Never Too Late
WWE really should have promoted the rumoured John Cena Vs. Undertaker match at the peak of their respective physical and storyline powers. The true magic of the Streak obscured its predictability. Nobody truly bought CM Punk as a legitimate contender - but the realised dream match aura of the wider storyline allowed fans to gladly suspend disbelief. 'Taker guaranteed a win - but in doing so, guaranteed a Match Of The Year contender.
In contrast, John Cena habitually provoked the ire of the fandom at the peak (well, nadir) of the SuperCena era. CENAWINSLOL, went the meme. He dominated all comers, sending those even with legitimate main event credentials back to the midcard. The prospect of this Cena ending the Streak, either side of the 2010s, was none too real. The sheer anxiety driving the match would have guaranteed an unprecedented atmosphere for the ages.
Still, Cena Vs. Undertaker in 2018 is less incongruous than it may seem. As good as 'Taker looked on RAW25, there's little chance of this exceeding half an hour in length - a necessary and welcome prospect, given the endurance test 'Mania has become. 'Taker struggled to go 20 with Roman Reigns last year - the lessons of which WWE should remember, even if the company has failed to remember its show-closing retirement angle.
Expectations are minute/mitigated for the match, too, which should stave off disappointment - and, realistically, both performers are so legendary that they will command the requisite 'Mania atmosphere the second they stare each other down.
