WWE commentators haven't been popular since, well...since the days of Jim Ross leading the booth, to be perfectly honest. Michael Cole, JBL and Byron Saxton's current Raw team, however, seem to be particularly weak, especially when they are compared to the slowly-bonding SmackDown team being led by Mauro Ranallo and his professional tones. The biggest problem comes from their inability to focus on the actual matches. Now this isn't just a case of them not calling moves (although they very rarely do that either), but instead talking about something entirely unrelated to what's happening in the ring at that moment. At best, they are pimping another storyline and at worst they seem to be attempting to make each other laugh instead of putting over the action and the performers in the ring. It is no secret that Vince McMahon is constantly screaming in Michael Cole's ear during your average Raw broadcast, so it is maybe unfair to blame them personally for this perceived lack of attention. It is a problem that the whole company needs to look at. A huge part of how your audience views both the wrestlers in the ring and the action that is unfolding comes from the commentators, and if they aren't selling it then people aren't going be buying it.
