10 Smart Ideas Nobody Gives TNA Credit For

4. Realised Hogan/Bischoff Era Wasn't Working

From 2009-2013, Hulk Hogan repeatedly said that he was committed to making TNA the number one wrestling promotion in the world. These were bold words, ones which lessened with impact as the years rolled on. Upon his arrival in the company, Hogan was accompanied by his long time friend, Eric Bischoff. The pair had drastically changed the wrestling landscape in the mid-90's with WCW, and claimed they could do the same again with TNA. Buying into this idea, TNA's President, Dixie Carter gave them pretty much carte blanche to do whatever they wanted. Suddenly, a whole load of stars from the 1980's and 90's started appearing on TNA television, overshadowing the home grown stars the company had pushed previously. Long before Hogan left in 2013 and Bischoff followed in 2014, it was clear this big revolution wasn't going to work. In many ways, TNA made an incredibly smart decision by moving away from the idea of going head-to-head with WWE. When Impact Wrestling ran opposite Monday Night Raw, it was slaughtered in the ratings. Before things got too embarrassing, TNA cancelled this 'Monday Night War', and many fans would agree with the company is better trying to carve their own niche.
