10 Spine-Chilling WWE Calls You'll Never Forget

4. "Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold!"

For this one we return again to the Royal Rumble, an event which lends itself to great commentary calls more than other thanks to the frenetic battle that traditionally ensues once the 30 competitors are whittled down to just two.

In 1998, the last remaining WrestleMania hopefuls - after The Great One did the dirty on Nation co-member Farooq - were Stone Cold and The Rock, whose rivalry would go on to define the entirety of the Attitude Era in the three years ahead.

After a thrilling finale, it was Austin who succeeded in tossing his opponent over the top rope, booking a WWF Title match with Shawn Michaels in two months time in the process. JR, like all of us, was head-over-heels with excitement, screaming - like a broken record - "Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold!"

What made this call so special was the 12 months that had preceded it, during which Austin - who won the '97 Rumble as well - had come within a whisker of breaking through Vince McMahon's glass ceiling. This victory was confirmation that he wasn't a flash in the pan; the Texas Rattlesnake had well and truly arrived.
