It wasn't all that long ago (2016 to be exact) that the 'Polish Princess' Karolina Kowalkiewicz was fighting for the UFC Women's Strawweight Championship. However, the former title challenger enters 2020 in the midst of a three-fight losing streak.

After consecutive losses to Jessica Andrade, Michelle Waterson, and Alexa Grasso respectively, Kowalkiewicz must win her upcoming bout with Yan Xiaonan if she hopes to remain on the UFC roster.

Xiaonan represents a significant step down in competition for the Polish puncher. Still, it seems like fighters have figured Kowalkiewicz out. She's never been the most refined striker in the division and doesn't have much in the way of a grappling pedigree. She will likely need to evolve (and soon) if she hopes to stick around.

In the early days of the women's strawweight division, heart and aggression could take a fighter a very long way. Unfortunately, for Kowalkiewicz, those days appear to be at an end.
