10 Steps IMPACT Wrestling Must Take Following Slammiversary 2021
2. Don't Go Down The Obvious Route
Scott D'Amore could easily put Kenny Omega vs. Jay White as IMPACT's Bound For Glory main event if he wanted to. It would result in sufficient ticket sales and pay-per-view buys for the 23 October pay-per-view, and would no doubt rule exceptionally hard.
In this case, the obvious route is one best left untravelled. The duo's IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship outing in January 2018 was an outstanding display that earned rave reviews.
In January 2018.
Why attempt to repeat a classic from almost four years ago when you can instead go down two separate avenues?
For Omega, a defence against someone like Trey Miguel or, hell, Josh Alexander seems apt. Miguel and Alexander (more on him in just a moment) are already sizeable figures within IMPACT Wrestling, but a pay-per-view programme against 'The Best Bout Machine' would give either of them that boost they need to get to the next level.
As for White? It's too early to tell. He may not even be in IMPACT by the time Bound For Glory rolls around, despite the New Japan teases for the Las Vegas event. If you're Scott D'Amore, though, surely you'd want to include him in your biggest event of the year, right? Perhaps something against Sami Callihan would benefit both guys.
