10 Stories From Bobby Heenan's One-of-a-Kind Career

7. The Time A Fan Tried To Kill Him

Perhaps the most remarkable Bobby Heenan story of them all - this one unequivocally true - came in his hometown of Chicago one night in 1975.

'The Brain' was innocently performing his duties as the heel manager of long-time client Nick Bockwinkel by distracting the referee when a fan, so irate at the idea of Verne Gagne losing the match due to outside interference, pulled out his gun and began firing it at the ring.

Whilst a few bystanders were injured, Heenan himself escaped without harm - and clearly, if his antics in subsequent years were anything to go by, was neither deterred from revisiting the underhanded tactics that once nearly got him killed.

Maybe it's not such a bad thing that kayfabe is dead these days after all.
