To generate more interest in their products from larger outside audiences, professional wrestling companies often send out their top performers to make an impression on mainstream television shows and at popular events. From signings to spots on network broadcasts, pro-wrestlers are far from strangers to the bright media spectrum outside of the squared circle.

When wrestlers show up in full character, they have the chance to reap all the rewards of additional exposure. However, they also tread the risk of damaging their in-ring personas beyond repair and even blemishing their employer's image.

Whereas seeing performers maintain their gimmicks outside of the ring isn't a complete rarity, how the superstars are utilized during their appearances is questionable more often than not.

Every once in a while, you will see a superstar hit a home run outside the ring while keeping kayfabe, pleasing their promoters by generating a buzz. Unfortunately, most of these appearances fall short of any ideal goal and leave onlookers to wonder what in the world is happening before their eyes. Or worse, the spectators are completely unaware of what is being promoted altogether.

10. CM Punk - Comic-Con

In 2011, CM Punk's popularity was unparalleled, especially during the summer after he defeated John Cena for the World Championship at Money in the Bank. Held in Chicago, Punk received the Windy City's full support during the event. Meanwhile, 'Big Match John' endured deafening chants such as "F*ck You Cena!"

The bout was presented as the last for the 'Straight Edge Superstar.' There were rumors of intense negotiations in real life, and WWE capitalized by tying them into the feud. Many believed Punk was a goner, as both WWE and the 'Best in the World' teased that he was moving into future endeavors.

The 'Master of Thuganomics' couldn't persevere, even with the distraction of Mr McMahon, and the roof blew off when Punk escaped jumped into a sea of his fans with the company's grandest prize in hand.

Many fans, aside from some diehards, weren't savvy to Punk inking a new deal. Consequentially, the new 'Alumni' had everyone's attention when he appeared at events like AAW and the San Diego Comic-Con soon after his victory.

The latter sighting saw Punk invade a WWE panel as Triple H spoke, leaving spectators to wonder what was real. Punk quipped, "How's life in fantasy land?" to which Hunter retorted, "How's life in the unemployment line?" without missing a beat. Punk poked the bear further by saying he was enjoying life outside of the squared circle and didn't need a job. The mix of creativity and real-life heat helped preserve the moment for fans of the internet darling.
