10 Stunning Incidents Which Led To Wrestlers Being Fined
9. Jake Roberts Costly Punch
Now a WWE Hall Of Famer, there was a period when the life of Jake Roberts couldn't exactly be considered under control. The man's drug and alcohol problems have been the cause of much conjecture over the years, and even Roberts himself has stated that had his friend DDP not intervened, he might not be here today. In December, 1988, Roberts was riding high as a heel in the then-WWF, but one punch would cost him dearly, and land the wrestler in legal hot water. After wrestling in Daytona Beach, and insulting the citizens of Florida, Roberts got into a scuffle with a man by the name of John Bartlett, who claimed in court that it was The Snake who instigated the fight. One punch later, and Roberts was fined $10,000, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, and had to pay Bartlett's medical bills, which accrued as high as $11,000. Notably, the grappler broke down somewhat in court, admitting that he regretted the incident, but didn't wander around the place laying his hands on people outside the ring normally. The judge, Gayle Graziano had little time for the bravado seen in pro wrestling, and warned Roberts that he couldn't go around hitting others, regardless of his profession. The WWF didn't give much attention to the incident, which must have pleased Jake - Vince McMahon's company could have been furious about what had happened, drawing negative attention to their business.
