10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2003

9. Brock Lesnar's Shooting Star Press

It's not surprising that WWE wanted Brock Lesnar to perform a shooting star press on WWE TV. After all, he'd done the move numerous times in OVW and in dark matches, hitting it perfectly on ever occasion. What better place to debut the move to the masses than in the main event of WrestleMania? It was supposed to be a 'WrestleMania moment' but it turned into a nightmare for Brock and WWE. Lesnar was convinced to do the move by John Laurinaitis, despite the fact he didn't really feel comfortable doing it and hadn't used the move regularly for over a year. The Next Big Thing completed practiced the move a couple of times before the show and everything seemed OK. He told Johnny Ace and WWE officials that he'd see how he felt when he was out there. Brock must have been feeling confident (or pressured) because he did attempt the move. Regrettably, his attempt was not successful. Brock nosedived, missing Angle by a good few inches and crashing down on his face, head and neck. It was a scary moment and Brock was really lucky that the effects weren't more serious. He escaped with minor injuries and a concussion but he could have ended up in a wheelchair. Lesnar was too tired to do the move after such a long match, he was sweaty and Angle was really far away from the turnbuckle. All of those factors, coupled with big match nerves, combined to ensure that Lesnar didn't hit his target. But it's not really his fault, since he didn't want to do the move anyway and only tried it because certain people backstage pressured him into it.
