10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2005

9. Cutting Shawn Michaels' Heel Run Short

It was such a refreshing change to see Shawn Michaels play a heel in the summer of '05, after years of him doing the well-worn babyface act. The Heartbreak Kid specifically turned heel in order to feud with uber babyface Hulk Hogan, with the two set to clash in a blockbuster match at SummerSlam. HBK didn't necessarily want to turn to the dark side, citing his newfound religious beliefs, but was talked into it in order to do a short, money-drawing programme with Hogan. Michaels turned on the Immortal One following a tag match on the July 4th Raw. Turning heel on Mr. American on the fourth of July? I'm surprised he wasn't a villain for life after that. The Showstopper was an absolute riot as a heel, sending up Hogan during a parody of the Larry King show, nailing Roddy Piper and Jerry Lawler with Sweet Chin Music and, most memorably of all, trolling the Montreal crowd by playing Bret Hart's music during his opening promo on Raw. Honestly, it was the most exciting Michaels had been in a long time but, sadly, all good things must come to an end. What sucks is how soon that end came for Michaels' heel run. As soon as the Hogan programme was over, Michaels was back to being a babyface and entered into a feud with the up-and-coming Chris Masters. There was supposed to be a rematch between Hogan and Michaels the next month, with the Hulkster doing the job, but he became mysteriously injured and unable to compete. Final score: Hogan 1 - 0 Michaels. Still, Hogan match or not, WWE should have kept going with Michaels as a heel for a little longer. He could have had a fantastic feud with John Cena over the WWE Title or had a fun midcard dispute with someone like Shelton Benjamin. Sadly, WWE and Michaels went right back to the formula, which you can't help but see as stupid decision.
