10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2006

6. Having The Great Khali Pin The Undertaker With One Foot On His Chest

The Undertaker has been one of WWE's most protected stars, well, ever. Rarely does the Deadman do a clean job to anyone, and if he's going down for the count there's usually something screwy involved in order to cover for it/him. This has, of course, helped preserve the mystique of the character to where, when a guy like Brock Lesnar gets a victory over him, it's a big deal. It was certainly a huge deal at Judgement Day 2006, when The Great Khali pinned The Undertaker with one foot on his chest after what had been, essentially, a prolonged squash match. It was a hell of a way for Khali to make an impact during his first WWE PPV appearance, but that doesn't mean it was the right call. After all, this is The Great Khali we're talking about. Yes, WWE and Vince McMahon were clearly enamoured with the Punjabi giant, due to his height, his size and how tall he was, but it was regressive booking to have him so easily dismantle a bonafide legend. It's the type of booking that went out of style in the early 90s, and with good reason. The New Generation, Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras had shown us that wrestling need not be massive but limited men shuffling their way through matches that featured barely any action. In 2006, fans wanted to see genuine athletes like Edge, Rey Mysterio, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Randy Orton and Rob Van Dam compete in long and athletic top-liners. Yes, WWE put the World Heavyweight Title on Khali's massive shoulders within the year, but given how he turned out in the end, having him destroy The Undertaker was clearly short-sighted on their part and sticks out as a noticeable blemish on The Phenom's record.
