10 Successful Mismatched WWE Tag Teams
7. Stone Cold Steve Austin & Dude Love
The red-hot Stone Cold Steve Austin captured the WWF Tag Team Championships with Shawn Michaels in 1997. When the latter went down with an injury, Austin was left without a partner to face former champs Owen Hart and The British Bulldog for the newly-vacated tag titles.
Quick to volunteer was Mankind, who was promptly rejected by Austin. Rather than team with a "freak" like Mankind, Austin instead chose to go it alone against the Hart Foundation on RAW. That was, until a maskless, tie-dyed Mankind appeared on the TitanTron, calling himself "Dude Love".
While a thoroughly-confused Texas Rattlesnake looked on, Love grooved his way down the entrance ramp and assumed the role of Austin's tag team partner. Eventually, Love would pin Bulldog and the unlikely pairing would become the WWF Tag Team Champions. Not too long after, the duo was forced to vacate the titles after Austin suffered a neck injury against Owen Hart at that year's SummerSlam.
With the two eventually clashing at 1998's Over The Edge, it seemed like the plan was for the two to have a falling out, but unfortunately that plan had to change. Nevertheless, Love's pairing with the reluctant Austin made for excellent television.
