It was the biggest SummerSlam of all time. The main event was into its 26th minute when Intercontinental Champion Bret 'Hitman' Hart went for a sunset flip, only to find himself tied up in a pinning predicament he couldn't get out of. Three seconds passed before he could, and 80,355 people rose in unison to celebrate the falling of a champion. His conqueror stood up to his adoring crowd; Shawn Michaels was the new Intercontinental Champion.

Wait, what? Yes, the original plan at SummerSlam 1992 was for Michaels to defeat Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship and continue his rise up the singles ranks. Back then WWF creative plans were made way in advance with little flexibility, and the long term plan was for Michaels to be a major star.

That still happened, but the decision was made to take SummerSlam 1992 to the United Kingdom, and once Wembley Stadium was bookedfor homeland hero Davey Boy Smith to take the IC title from Hart. Which is strange, when you think of WWE tends to book folk in their homes...
