10 Superstars You Forgot Competed For A World Championship On WWE PPV
2. Mustafa Ali – vs. Daniel Bryan and Kevin Owens for the WWE Championship (Fastlane 2019)
It's worth remembering that the euphoria of Kofi Kingston’s Road to WrestleMania and subsequent WWE Championship triumph last year would not have come to fruition had it not been for the shockingly timed eye injury that befell Mustafa Ali.
Quickly gathering steam before Elimination Chamber, Ali was rising up the SmackDown ranks until the aforementioned injury caused his withdrawal from the same chamber match that usurped Kingston into the hearts of the wrestling world. Although, the man formerly known as the ‘Heart of 205 Live’ did receive a brief moment in the sun.
He was inserted into the WWE Championship triple threat match at Fastlane 2019, opposing heel champion Daniel Bryan and Kevin Owens. Unfortunately, it seemed Mustafa was doomed on arrival, suffering from the sheer reality that he was not Kingston, as the cruiserweight received very little reaction from the Cleveland crowd, and even some boos.
However, through sheer determination and work rate, Ali slowly turned the fans in attendance around, delivering a fantastic display in a strong three way battle, which featured an exceptional home stretch.
Sadly, as a result of ill-timed injuries, his upwards trajectory has been continuously hindered, thus Ali has become one of history’s most forgettable PPV World Title challengers, despite only taking place a short time ago.
